Hombres Videopoetry Award 2020: “Eko ile” è la forma della città

Pereto – Sabato 26 settembre 2020, nell’ambito del Premio Hombres Itinerante, dedicato a Pier Paolo Pasolini, si è conclusa la giornata dedicata alla sezione videopoesia, il primo festival e premio internazionale di videopoesi a al mondo interamente dedicato ai Borghi.

A vincere è stato il progetto City Odes – Lagos, Nigeria con la videopoesia Eko ile di Sheldon Chau che si aggiudica anche le menzione come miglior testo poetico.

Nel corso della presentazione il curatore e Direttore artistico del premio di videopoesia Dimitri Ruggeri ha evidenziato come l’autore abbia centrato il tema del concorso che era “La forma della città”,

La videopoesia Sensing Body and City di Johanna Reichhart vince la menzione come miglior performance e miglior fotografia/visual.

La videopoesia Scary Places/Shapes & Sizes di Pamela Falkenberg e Jack Cochran vince la menzione come miglior musica.

The American poet Edward Estlin Cummings entitled one of his poems “Love is a place”. And it is precisely in this spirit that “Eko ile” becomes a real ode paid to the homeland and motherland, nurse and companion. An ode dedicated to one of the most intense, vibrant and overwhelming places on Earth: Lagos, Nigeria. Language is one of the added values of this video poem as it combines the Yoruba language, one of the main languages of the country, of the title: “Eko ile” translates into “Lagos is home”, English and English pidgin a sort of local slang, thus becoming a metalanguage that brings us back to the authenticity of the narrative and the semantic roots of a people. The closure is exceptional in terms of metrics, intention and essentiality, in a few syllables the promise of a visceral and infinite belonging is fulfilled.

The music matches perfectly with the images and the text. It sometimes plays on the rest in the text, sometimes builts the foundations of it. The sharp and biting atmosphere created by the music itself mixes well with the fast and hectic images

It was shot like a little movie. The director used light and camera movements to show a metropolitan reality with all the colors of the city and the human beings it hosts. A common reality for billions of people.
